FDA의 조직을 제대로 이해하여 허가신청 시 알맞은 부서에 신청을 할 수 있게 돕고자 FDA organization에 대하여 아래와 같이 간략하게 설명한다.

FDA는 Office of the Commissioner과 아래와 같이 각 핵심기능을 관할하는 네 개의 부서들로 이루어져있다.

① Office of Medical Products and Tobacco

② Office of Operations

③ Office of Foods and Veterinary Medicine

④ Office Global Regulatory Operations and Policy

이 부서들 중 Office of Medical Products and Tobacco가 의료기기 및 체외진단분석기용 시약에 관한 안전성 및 유효성 평가와 관련된 규제감독 및 심사를 진행하며 이 부서는 아래와 같이 네개의 센터로 이루어져 있다.

① 의료기기 및 방사선 보건센터(Center for Devices and Radiological Health, CDRH)

② 생물학적제제 평가 및 연구센터(Center for Biologics evaluation and research, CBER)

③ 의약품평가 및 연구센터(Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, CDER)

④ 담배통제센터(Center for tobacco products, CTP)
